Hey Troubadour is a celebration of the song born in a city of song.

Dublin is a city that shows great respect to great songwriters, whether from here or elsewhere. We pride ourselves on the attention we will give to people who have a way with words. Two things have been the epicentre of song in Dublin these past decades – Busking and Whelans. Hey Troubadour brings both of these together for one magical day on Saturday September 15th.

Hey Troubadour, presented by Born Optimistic, kicks off with a busking session at 2pm in Crampton Court, a brightly coloured square nestled down a tiny lane between Brogans Pub and The Olympia Theatre where a variety of artists will come and share their songs with each other outdoors. There will be no loud speakers, just loud voices bouncing off the walls and making sweet sounds. There’s no admission charge but there will be a guitar case where all money dropped in will be given to Aidlink.

The only announced act for the busk are The Daydreamers. They are a choir of 8-11 year olds from Brittas Bay in Wicklow who only sing the songs of Mic Christopher. They had their debut gig in the Unitarian Church recently and it was beautifully amazing.  The Daydreamers will be joined by other acts for the busk, some of whom will be playing later on at our gig in Whelans.

Gracing that hallowed Whelans stage will be Glen Hansard, Mark Geary, David Keenan, Mongoose, Ailbhe Reddy, Stephen James Smith, Sam Kavanagh (Lalala Choir), Larry Beau, Matthew Mark Palmer, Junior Brother, Ailie., Natalya O’Flaherty, Harry Hoban and our MC Eve Darcy. TICKETS HERE

These amazing artists are all donating their incredible skills and time for free to enable all of the proceeds raised to go to Aidlink to support our community led projects. Our executive director Anne Cleary explains: “Aidlink are overjoyed to be the benefactors of Hey Troubadour. The DIY self-starter attitude of the artists on this bill like Glen Hansard completely reflects the local community groups we work with such as the Girl Child Network in Kenya. Glen has never taken no for an answer and has stayed true to his core ethos which is just what we look for in the strong partnerships we build with grassroots groups in Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana.”
